The Rapid City Arts Council Announces the Kick-Off of The NEA Big Read Rapid City Rapid City will come together to read and celebrate The Bear by Andrew Krivak RAPID CITY, SD – The Rapid City Arts Council (RCAC) will launch its National Endowment for the Arts Big Read program exploring The Bear by Andrew Krivak with an event in Main Street Square on December 7th from 1-3pm. The NEA Big Read in Rapid City is presented in partnership with the Rapid City Public Library with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The kick-off event for readers of all ages will feature live music by Austin Trupe, an engaging book reading with hot cocoa, free copies of The Bear by Andrew Krivak, and additional books for young readers. Free copies of the books are available while supplies last. The first 100 participants to sign up for the Big Read newsletter will receive complimentary s’mores! Ice skate rentals will also be available for some extra winter fun. Come mix and mingle with readers and Big Read partners! Presented by the Rapid City Arts Council in partnership with the Library. Don’t miss this cozy afternoon of community and literature at Main Street Square, 1-3pm, Saturday, December 7, 2024. An initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the power of a shared reading experience. Rapid City is one of 62 communities nationwide participating in the 2023-2024 NEA Big Read. From December through June, our community will celebrate The Bear by Andrew Krivak with a full calendar of events including book discussions, art exhibitions, creative writing workshops, and poetry slams planned through June 2025.
