AEP6

Arts & Economic Prosperity Study 6 provides economic impact data on the non-profit arts in Rapid City.
SEE THE FINDINGS
The Rapid City Arts Council partnered with Arts South Dakota and South Dakota Arts Council along with four more South Dakota communities: Aberdeen, Brookings, Sioux Falls, and Yankton to fund a new study of South Dakota’s nonprofit arts and culture industry showing $363 million in economic activity generated in 2022. Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6) is an economic and social impact study by Americans for the Arts.

During Fiscal Year 2022 in Rapid City the non-profit arts & culture sector provided:
  • $204,105,202 in economic activity
  • 3,296 jobs
  • 3,225,885 attendees to arts & culture events

In spite of the effects of the pandemic just prior to this study, the non-profit arts are strong in South Dakota! Find more detailed information on the impacts in the study materials below, as well as more information about the other local studies of creative communities across the state.

AEP6 delivers a clear and welcome message: when communities invest in arts and culture, they are not doing so at the expense of community and economic development. Rather, they are investing in an industry that stimulates the economy, supports local jobs, and contributes to building healthy, vibrant, and livable communities. Here are 3 ways to support the arts in your community:

The Rapid City Arts Council staff and Board of Directors thanks the City of Rapid City for continuously supporting our mission and the arts. The generosity of our many volunteers, donors, and members drives our mission to champion inclusive, innovative and inspiring arts opportunities to enrich the communities we serve.  Additional support comes from the South Dakota Community Foundation, Black Hills Community Foundation, and the South Dakota Arts Council with funds from the State of South Dakota through the Department of Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts. Special thanks to our events sponsor, Bierschbach Equipment. The Dahl Arts Center is a municipal facility of the City of Rapid City and is managed by the Rapid City Arts Council on behalf of the Rapid City community.
