TOPO
Quintin Owens
12.08.23 - 03.16.23
Ruth Brennan Gallery

TOPO is a reflection on Look Out Mountain, Crow Peak, Spearfish Mountain, Bear Butte and Terry Peak as objects of wonder. Each location is represented by its seven highest topographic lines utilizing topographical contour maps and satellite elevation data produced by NASA’s Space Shuttle Endeavor. Quintin uses the language of maps and data to create form. This work is an effort to traverse between documentation of place and ever changing encounters of immediate experience. The TOPO exhibition is made up of four different series. Terrains and Prairie Grass both employ the use of a 3D printer to print the forms of contour loops as ceramic objects. The Cairns series uses a computer controlled milling machine to cut the wood contours of the topographical lines. The title for the final series is a playful reference to graffiti and this series uses crushed brick and the computer controlled milling machine to create wall reliefs.

Gestalt Symbology
Tia Erin
12.14.23 - 02.29.24

The word Gestalt is often defined as “The sum of the parts is worth more than the whole”. But in reality, the original philosophy of German Gestalt psychologist Kurt Koffka is “the whole is something else than the sum of its parts.” While each piece is relevant and important it is the transformation into something bigger than the individual that brings forth inspiration. In a similar perspective Sacred Geometry is seen as the “blueprint of creation” that depicts patterns in creation and energy through the use of geometric shapes and proportions.
