RAPID CITY ARTS COUNCIL ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL CALL FOR POP-UP ART IN A NEW INITIATIVE AT THE DAHL ARTS CENTER RAPID CITY, SD – The Rapid City Arts Council today announced its inaugural call for pop-up exhibitions, introducing a new opportunity for local artists to present different types of artwork in a unique format at the Dahl Arts Center. The pop-up initiative aims to share non-traditional creative endeavors by local artists with the Black Hills community. Installations can feature a wide array of media, including videography, sound, performance art, as well as traditional forms such as oil painting, mixed media, and calligraphy. The program aims to show off the breadth of creativity of the region. Pop-Ups can be hosted in various locations within the Dahl Art Center, including the main lobby or other sites on the Dahl campus. The debut pop-up exhibition, “Barbie Dahl,” held in August 2023, featured artist Bob Miller's collection of pop culture art utilizing Barbies in photogram processes, this pop-up was inspired by the blockbuster film, Barbie, that took over the cultural conversation. The Rapid City Arts Council invites artists to propose their non-traditional projects. Noah Geiger, Curator and Gallery Director at the Dahl, encourages interested artists to reach out for support or to discuss their ideas for a proposal. If you have a bold artistic vision, or a new direction, and are looking for a platform to test it out or share it with the community, we want to hear from you! Submissions will be reviewed by the Rapid City Arts Council's Exhibits Committee. Artists are encouraged to submit proposals by May 15th, 2024, for consideration in the summer and fall exhibition calendars. Proposals can be submitted online or via email to [email protected].
